On a recent grateful walk,
I celebrated the wisdom of
of the people, animals and nature
that is often overlooked.
I’ve been counseling kids and a six-year-old recently said to me,
“Peace can be found by the human spirit connecting.”
I asked him how he learned this and he said
“God told me”.

Another day, I was distracted by
someone’s nasty words
and was pulled out of the hurt
by focusing on Bella’s smile
and joyful invitation to play.

When we arrived home,
we sat and watched the caterpillars
nourish on milkweed.
I’ve learned that even though
the milkweed looks like it will be wiped out,
it comes back stronger with more blooms.

May today find you
letting go of any nastiness
by focusing on more important things
like listening to the wisdom of an old soul in a young body,
accepting the invitation to heal through play,
and celebrating the wisdom
that releasing all you have to serve your purpose
only makes you stronger.

Walls no longer contain you

This fence was torn apart by the destructive forces of Irma to reveal the stunning majesty that lies within.  I’ve discovered that sometimes pain comes into our life to tear open the walls we built to protect ourselves so we can share our beauty with the world again.  While certainly painful, I have great gratitude for those painful times.
Other times we do the work to learn to love ourselves more... tearing down the wall of lies that contains us to allow our hearts to be able to finally expand and share the unique song your heart sings... not just a few lines.
May you let your heart become so big
that the walls that were built out of pain can no longer contain you.

When life finds me
looking to the past
may I be grateful
for the obstacles
that helped me grow
and then let them go.

When life finds me
focusing into the future,
my I plan with
only trust, hope and faith.

And in this present moment,
may life find you
knowing you are loved
beyond measure
and that I am grateful for all
the goodness you
bring to this world.

Necessary Resistance

On this morning's grateful walk,
I found gratitude
for the wind
giving necessary resistance
for the birds to fly.
I thanked the wind for reminding me that
sometimes I need resistance in my life
to fly to new heights
and also providing me
with a supportive push forward
when I am in the flow.

May today find you
flying to new heights
providing new yet deeper perspective
to the beauty of life.

On our grateful walk,
I set the intention to be in joy
and send gratitude to all
that crossed my path.
Nature offered a beautiful wave
and smiled back
at not only be seen
but honored as well.
May today find you
being seen,
being honored
and giving the same gifts
to all who cross your path.

On a recent grateful walk, I thought about how
living in my mind
seemed like the safe and rational choice
as to stay in my mind’s landlocked realm
kept me on well worn, familiar paths.
And yet, I had an uneasiness that
the roads I was on
were built by someone else
and were leading me
to where someone else wanted to go.
I decided to adventure further
following the compass of my intuition and
came upon the road to my heart.
I’ve heard numerous tales of drowning
in woe and despair
and have been taught to be fearful
of the unknown monsters
living in my dark depths.
Although as I approached my heart,
I gasped in her beauty
and fell to my knees
in remembering the companion
that I had been longing for...
was my heart.
I dipped my toes in her beauty
and explored
how the views from the sea
were different from being at the shore.
Seeing the world from the seas of my heart
instead of the well worn roads of my mind
allowed me to have new perspective
and created space to understand
every opinion makes sense
from the roads a person has walked
and how deep they are in their heart.
A current of compassion flowed through me
for all of the guides on my path
that instead of judging and condemning me
when I had lost my way
pointed me in new directions
guiding me to this moment
of increased awareness
of the paths of my mind
and increased confidence of
navigating the wisdom of my heart.
May today find currents of compassion
flowing through your life and
deep gratitude for the guides
that point us to the way of Truth.

When she looked past the lies the darkness told her, she discovered:
She had rainbows in her hair
A sparkle in her eye
And gratitude in her heart

On my grateful walk this morning, I encountered
a Portuguese Man O’ War and a by-the-wind sailor
washed up next to a violet sea snail.
Entranced by the beauty of the violet sea snail, I discovered that it builds a raft of bubbles to float in the sea
and feeds on the venomous Portuguese Man O’ War.
All of these animals live at the mercy of the winds and the tides
reminding me to trust that natural forces are also guiding my life
and to go with the flow.
Looking at the bubbles created by the snail,
I am reminded nature always provides a way
when I am sinking to rise again.
While the violet sea snail may be small,
it has the ability to
transform the venomous
into healthy nourishment.
May today find you
in the flow,
rising,
and nourished by all your experiences.

On a recent grateful walk through the mangroves with Bella,
I watched the mangrove’s sacrificial leaf
drop off and float away.
Mangroves are one of the only trees that can survive in saltwater
due to the fact that they are able to filter out
up to 90% of the seawater that is toxic to them
at their roots
before
toxicity gets flushed through their entire system.
Mangroves then take the toxicity
that has made it through
and directs it into one sacrificial leaf
(seen as the orange leaf in the picture)
that allows the rest of the tree to stay safe
and keep growing.
My heart smiled at the wisdom of nature
that with good boundaries
I can also keep out 90% of the
toxicity in my environment.
It is part of ongoing healthy growth
to gather up what does not serve,
let it go
and let it naturally float away.
I decided at that moment
to honor the wisdom of mother nature
to let go of what does not serve healthy growth
as it is meant to fall away.
I scanned my mind, heart and body
for any toxic thoughts and feelings
and released
my mind from the battles within
my heart from the old hurts and betrayals
and my body from holding onto stress.
I treasured this peaceful space.
I thanked my boundaries
developed and grown with care
that have become
my roots to keep out toxicity
allowing for fertile soil within
for my dreams to blossom and flourish.
I then set the intention
to keep checking in
for any toxicity that gets through
and release it without judgment
as it is part of natural growth.
May today find your boundaries firm
your mind present
your heart peaceful
and joy blossoming throughout your soul.

On my grateful walk with Bella
onto paths of beauty,
I had an insight
that it felt like my heart has existed
in the universe
much longer than my mind.
When I am in my heart,
I respond to life
in the present
with honest reactions
to whatever comes my way.
I fall in love with the colors of the water,
feel grateful for the breeze,
squeal and move quickly past a spider,
and overflow with joy for Bella’s love of fishing.
When I am in my mind,
I often get so caught up in stories
about the past or the future
that it leads me down dark paths created by my mind
that I can walk down the same path of beauty
and never notice the water,
feel the breeze,
see a spider or
enjoy Bella fishing
making me feel lonely
for my relationship with life.
It is though my heart knows
to set aside my imaginations
to be here now
as that is where
my love of life
lives.
May today find you
in your heart
falling in love with life
over and over again.
